Convert a guitar recording into tabs – without uploading it
Autotab detects the notes in a guitar recording and writes them out as tablature.
Detection runs entirely in your browser: your recording is never uploaded, never stored
and never sent to a server. There is no account, no sign-up and no daily limit.
How it works
Record your guitar through a microphone or audio interface – or load an existing file (WAV, MP3, FLAC, OGG).
Set tempo, grid, time signature and fretboard position. The defaults are fine if you are unsure.
Click “Create tabs”. On first use the detection model is downloaded once.
Click individual notes in the sheet to move them to another string or delete them.
Take the result with you as MIDI, MusicXML (for TuxGuitar and Guitar Pro) or ASCII tab.
What works well – and what does not
The best results come from clean, single-note recordings: a melody or a solo
played clean, without distortion and without heavy reverb. An electric guitar through an
interface is ideal, an acoustic guitar close to the microphone works well too.
Chords, distortion and wet effects stay difficult. Several strings ringing at
once create overtones that any detection model can mistake for real notes. The “All voices”
mode and the sensitivity slider help, but they do not solve it completely, so expect some
cleanup in the editor.
Frequently asked questions
Is my recording uploaded anywhere?
No. Recording, detection and tab generation all happen in the browser tab on your device.
There is no upload endpoint. The only thing downloaded is the detection model itself.
Which file formats and lengths are supported?
WAV, MP3, FLAC and OGG up to 25 MB and 5 minutes. Short excerpts usually give better
results than a whole song.
Does it work with chords?
Use the Chords mode (groups strums and matches triads/seventh chords).
“All voices” keeps every detected note without that filtering. Best results: clean, slow
strums without distortion.
What is the difference between “Fast” and “Accurate”?
“Fast” uses Basic Pitch and can detect several notes at once. “Accurate” additionally uses
CREPE, a dedicated pitch model, for single-note melodies: more precise on one voice, but
slower. In “All voices” mode it stays on Basic Pitch.
Can I open the result in Guitar Pro or TuxGuitar?
Yes. The MusicXML export imports into TuxGuitar and Guitar Pro, and MIDI works in any DAW.
You also get the tablature as plain ASCII text to copy.
Does Autotab cost anything?
No. The app is free, anonymous and usable without an account. There are no ads and no
tracking.

Input level in the browser. 100 % is unity gain (centre). Up to 200 % for quiet signals, lower for loud ones. Too loud will clip.
Countdown in seconds before recording starts – for example to pick your guitar back up.
Starts the local recording. Stop ends it. After that you can create the tabs.
Loads an existing file (WAV, MP3, FLAC, OGG) instead of recording a new one.
Recording level and tuner above the waveform. The bar should move without staying red (clipping). Green means the note is in tune (±5 cents).
Tempo of the tabs in beats per minute. Ideally the tempo you played at.
Click along with the beat a few times to take the BPM from your playing.
Smallest note used when placing the notes. 16ths for fast runs, 8ths for calmer lines.
Time signature for bar lines and rests in the sheet.
Preferred fretboard area. Automatic picks the option with the least hand movement. You can move individual notes afterwards.
Melody keeps a single voice (typical for solos). Chords groups strums, matches triads/seventh chords and removes overtones. All voices keeps every detected note without chord logic.
Fast is the default (Basic Pitch, also handles chords). Accurate uses a second local model (CREPE) for melodies: extra download, slower. All voices stays on Basic Pitch because CREPE hears only one voice.

Detects the notes and draws the tabs. Runs in your browser, audio never leaves this device. The model is downloaded on first use; Accurate downloads a second one when needed.
